Substitute Requests - How to use sling!

  • Please apply to substitute classes when you are available.

  • Everyone should be working together to fill spots in the schedule.

  • If you have a class you need to be covered, please enter it into Sling as soon as possible.

  • If you cannot find the coverage you are responsible for for the class—please do not enter the request and not follow up to verify that the class is covered.


All teachers should receive a login to Sling. Once you have been entered in, you will receive an email with login information to register and sign up.

  • Download the android app / iPhone app or head over to the sling website and log in.

  • At the bottom, you will see ‘Dashboard’ ‘Shifts’ ‘Newsfeeds’ ‘More.’

  • Dashboard: Here are your alerts for your next upcoming shift, as well as any shifts that are available/any shifts that you have put up for grabs that have been taken. Think of this as your communication log.

  • Shifts: You will see three tabs ‘My Schedule’ ‘ Full Schedule’ ‘Available.’

    • My Schedule: These are the classes you are assigned to, including substituting classes.

    • Full Schedule: This is the entire list of classes at Emerald Yoga Studio.

    • Available: All of the classes that haven’t been covered and are available will be here.

  • Newsfeeds: Ignore this feature for now.

  • More: Edit your profile, photo, notification settings*, and more.

  • Requesting a class off: On the class, you are teaching, click on the correct date, click on the three dots in the upper right-hand corner, and select “make shift available.”

  • Applying for a class: Click on the class and select apply.

  • Once you apply for the class, all applications are sent directly to us. If multiple people apply for the class, you may or may not receive a notification that you were accepted. Please check that you have been selected for the class before showing up.

  • *Notification settings: Please turn on your settings so that you are being alerted of available classes. We shouldn’t be using the group chat for available classes unless there is an emergency.

  • Shift Alarms: These are alerts for your classes; feel free to disregard these unless you often substitute classes at different times and need reminders.

  • Notifications: Turn on either/both push notifications or email notifications.
