How to Start Yoga If You’ve Never Done It Before
When I first thought about trying yoga, I hesitated for months.
I pictured rooms full of flexible, serene people who already knew what they were doing.
I wasn’t flexible. I wasn’t serene.
And honestly, I was scared I’d walk into a class and look foolish.
But something inside kept nudging me.
I needed something to help me feel more at home in my body, more at peace with my mind.
One day, I got tired of waiting to feel “ready.” I picked a class, took a deep breath, and went.
It wasn’t perfect.
I lost my balance. I forgot to breathe. I had no idea what some of the poses were called.
But no one laughed. No one judged.
The teacher smiled and said, "Start where you are. That’s all you ever have to do."
That moment stuck with me.
Yoga isn’t about being flexible or strong right away.
It’s about showing up.
It’s about listening to your body, honoring what you feel, and giving yourself the space to grow.
If you’re thinking about starting yoga but feel nervous, I get it.
It can be intimidating to try something new, especially when it asks you to be seen just as you are.
But here’s what I wish I could tell my past self — and maybe you need to hear it too:
You don’t have to be perfect to belong.
You already belong.
Your mat isn’t a stage. It’s a home you build breath by breath.
If you ever want a place to start, I’m here, and our studio is here too.
You don’t have to do it alone.
