When being overbooked is idealized, it can be difficult to find a place to relax, not to mention allow yourself the time. But being so busy can be hard on your mental and physical health, as your body doesn’t get the rest it needs. Try to not only take the time to relax each day, but also create a relaxing atmosphere in your home so that you can more easily feel relaxation. Here are a few ways that you can transform your space into more of a relaxing atmosphere.

Dedicate Space

First of all, having a space dedicated to relaxation is a great step towards truly attaining it. If you find that there are certain places in your house that don’t let you relax very well, don’t choose these spaces. Try to find a spot that is quiet and sees less household traffic. For example, if you don’t relax very well in your kitchen or office because you’re reminded about the different things that you need to do, try to choose a different space. Maybe a reading nook, bedroom, or patio would be better relaxation spaces as they could allow you to get away from your daily tasks for a time. Last, tell others in your household of the space’s new purpose and to not disturb you in it, so you’re able to get the amount of relaxation that you need.

Remove Distractions

Once you’ve identified a space that you want to make into a more relaxing atmosphere, determine what distractions may be in the space itself. You’ll find that removing those distractions around you will help your mind and body fully rest and relax. For example, if you’ve decided to make your bedroom into a more relaxing space, try to avoid having clutter in your bedroom. This will probably stress you out and you’ll end up cleaning the clutter or feeling claustrophobic. Children, hyper pets, and loud street noises can all be a distraction, and in general don’t promote a quiet mind. By removing distractions from your space, you’ll make a more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, encouraging your mind and body to rest.

Control the Light

Now that you’ve found your dedicated space of relaxation and removed distractions from said space, you’ll want to control the light to further promote the right atmosphere. If reading helps you to relax, consider adding some yellow-toned reading lights which have a cozy and relaxing feel. If doing yoga in your space helps you to relax, you may want to make sure that there is sufficient natural light coming in through your windows or doors so that you feel connected to the outdoors. Upgrading the quality of your windows and doors not only helps with light, but it can also keep the temperature more consistent.

Determine Your Ideal Aesthetic

Next, you’ll want to determine the ideal aesthetic for your space of relaxation. If there are certain colors, decorations, or furniture pieces that help add to your ability to relax, make sure to include them in your space. Certain aesthetics help more than others in creating your ideal relaxing space. If you are more of a minimalist, you may want to choose an open, airy room with simple, comfortable furniture and minimal décor. If you have more of an artistic taste and being around the things that you love makes you feel relaxed and safe, include your personal style in the décor, including furniture, rugs, paint colors, décor, and more. Many people like to include plants in their relaxation spaces as they give off a natural, peaceful aesthetic. Determine what your personal aesthetic for the space will be and carry out your plan.

Appeal to Your Senses

Adding elements that appeal to your senses helps your relaxation space to be more effective. For example, if you have a certain candle or scent that you always use in your space, your body will recognize and react to the scent, subconsciously allowing you to relax more quickly. Additionally, if a certain type of music, like classical music, helps your mind to stop worrying and racing, playing that type of music in your relaxation space will help your mind to calm down. Even the things that you feel, such as the texture of the furniture that you use or the clothes that you wear, can affect how much you are able to relax and rejuvenate in your space.

Turn Off Technology

While many people often turn to technology when they’re in need of relaxation, it isn’t always the best option. Passively scrolling through social media or binge-watching a show may help your body to relax from running errands or working, but it doesn’t encourage your mind to quiet and unwind. Turning off and putting away your technology gives your mind time to rest from the constant bombardment of social media and entertainment. This will also help you to reflect on your happiness, your health, and your life, allowing your relaxation time to actually leave you feeling rejuvenated.

Sentimental Objects

Everyone has certain objects that bring them peace and comfort, so it’s smart to include such objects in your spaces that are meant to bring these very feelings. If you like surrounding yourself with photos of your loved ones or fun memories, consider making a collage wall of these photos. If you have artwork, décor, or possessions that have sentimental value, include them in your space. Often, meaningful gifts, family heirlooms, or personal creations add the sentimental touch that your space will be needing. These kinds of objects will lift your mood and remind you of peaceful, happy times. Including sentimental or positive objects in your relaxing environment is really the perfect finishing touch.

Now that you have a few ideas of how to create a more relaxing atmosphere in your home and designated space, go get to work! Remember to include the different elements that have been discussed in this article, as they will help you to better find true relaxation. The sooner this space is prepared, the sooner you’ll be able to get the mental and physical rejuvenation that you need.
