Chaturanga Workshop with Ryan Kramer

Looking to shake up your yoga practice?

Come to our Chaturanga workshop and learn how to add Chaturanga Dandasana into your routine. Chaturanga is often called the "yoga push-up" and is a great way to build strength in the arms and core.

Our workshop will feature a gentle stretching warmup, followed by some arm and core work. Then we'll hit the chaturangas hard! There will be no expectation that folks will have to do the "full" expression and we'll spend just as much time discussing the knees-down version.

SPACE IS LIMITED!

Pre-registration is required.

Tentative Schedule:
15 mins of "classroom time" discussing the anatomy of a proper chaturanga and what the various yogic texts have to say about it

15 mins warmup - stretching and tabletop poses

30 minutes of posture clinic- in a circle repping the set up and execution

30 mins of flow where we integrate what we learned!

108 Sun Salutations - Winter Solstice

108 Sun Salutations - Winter Solstice

Join us at Emerald for this transformative practice, done in silence. It will be a moving meditation. All levels of yogis are strongly encouraged! You are welcome to go at your own pace.

At Emerald Yoga Studio, it’s no sleepy, boring holiday yoga events for us! Emerald finishes 2021 strong with a moving meditation challenge (and we give proceeds to our Yoga Reaches Out team supporting Boston Children's Hospital!).

“What exactly happens at this event?” We do 108 basic sun salutations in nine sets of 12, with an extended child's pose between sets. The practice is done with music but no speaking. Students are encouraged but not required to take turns leading a set of salutations. We count for you so you don't have to. A bell will signify the beginning and end of each set.

“What's a sun salutation again?” Mountain pose. Sweep arms up, swan dive down to forward fold. Halfway lift, forward fold. High plank, low plank (or knees-chest-chin). Upward-facing dog, downward-facing dog. Step or hop to forward fold. Halfway lift, forward fold. Sweep arms up to standing, mountain pose. This completes one sun salutation.

“Can I DO 108 sun salutations? Isn't that insane?” It's challenging but it's a practice I recommend that EVERYONE try. You don't have to do every one. You can do every other set. You can just do as many as you can until you're done and do child's pose or legs up the wall for the rest of the time. This is your OWN mini yoga marathon, done YOUR way, so it’s for newbies and experienced yogis alike! (And the FEELING when you’re done! An amazing sense of accomplishment, a glorious kind of sore.)

“How long does this take? Like 6 and a half hours?” No! Don't freak out! It takes 75-90 minutes, the length of a regular class.

“What's the point of doing this, really?” It's fun to challenge yourself. It's a nod to the tradition of yoga. And ... when you practice in silence surrounded by others doing the same, it becomes a beautiful moving meditation fueled by the collective generous energy of the room.

Explore & Restore

explore and restore (1080 x 1080 px).png

Class will start with a vinyasa flow to get us warm and stretched. We will then take some time with a few advanced poses to break them down and play around! We will explore each pose and how to get into it, modify it or just start to lay the basic groundwork to begin to practice it. This is a great time to just play around with some poses we might not get to do often in a regular class.

After we have worked up a sweat, we will move into a relaxing Restorative practice. We will surround ourselves with props, relaxing music, meditation and breath work. Each pose is meant to bring the ultimate of relaxation!

CLASS WILL BE DONATION BASED

We are asking for a $30 donation AND one non perishable good. All monetary donations will be going to Outreach Program/End Hunger New England and food donations will go to the Firehouse Food Pantry.

After signing up you will receive a confirmation email for your donation. This ensures that you are signed up for the class on October 29th. Please arrive 15 minutes beforehand to fill out a waiver if you have not been to Emerald Yoga Studio.
